A Swan Marsh dairy farm eliminated power disruptions during milking and reduced energy costs with PHNXX modular system
A 220-cow dairy farm in Swan Marsh, Southwest Victoria eliminated power disruptions during milking and reduced energy costs by $20,000 a year, using PHNXX's modular solar and battery system. Installed following a four-month on-site pilot program, the solution significantly reduced the farm's reliance on an unreliable grid and replaced an unstable generator setup.
The Challenge:
The dairy farm experienced multiple power disruptions a year, each lasting six to eight hours. With between 7,500 and 9,000 litres of milk in storage at any time, a single power outage carried a spoilage risk of up to $10,000, including disposal andsterilisation costs.
To fill the gap during outages, the farm relied on a generator driven off a tractor. But as the electrical load fluctuated during milking, the generator couldn't respond quickly enough to maintain stable power, putting sensitive dairy equipment at risk.
Rising grid electricity prices added further pressure, with costs increasing year on year and no way to control or predict future exposure.
The Solution:
PHNXX deployed a containerised solar and battery system customised to the farm's specific power requirements, developed following a four-month pilot program on site.
